My Functional Medicine Experience: Supplements

I’ve gone back and forth on this post. Should I disclose the *actual* supplements I’m using?

On any other blog, with any other main blogging subject, the supplements I’m using wouldn’t be a big deal. But in the world of AIP, every single ingredient matters. Every single derived ingredient matters. The Autoimmune Protocol is about picking labels apart and knowing exactly what it contains, on all levels.

And if just one single thing doesn’t align with what is compliant during the elimination phase, the product is deemed off limits. AS IT SHOULD. (Not to say all non-AIP products are bad, they just aren’t useful for the purposes of AIP during the elimination phase.) However, as you may have guessed by now, some of the supplements I take are not compliant during the elimination phase of the Autoimmune Protocol.

Let me repeat that.

Some of the supplements I take are not compliant during the elimination phase of the Autoimmune Protocol.

So why am I taking them?

After much discussion with my doctor, we feel the depth of deficiency I’m experiencing is in need of supplements more than my unknown sensitivities need to stay away from them. Essentially, we’re taking a huge gamble in reintro-ing ingredients in multiples and not one at a time, as the protocol suggests.

It’s important to note here that the purpose of this blog is to share MY health journey. If these supplements pose an issue for me, I’ll move on to a different one. That simple! I realize the approach I am taking is counter AIP, and I hope that doesn’t cause me to lose readers, but honesty is the best policy so here we go!

Supplements Not Compliant During the Elimination Phase of AIP:

I’ve gone through a whole bottle of this stuff already and feel like my body GOBBLES it up! Within two weeks, I was feeling positive results. The taste is very tangy but not gross.

These two were started just this past week so I haven’t formulated an opinion yet.

My Topical Supplement:

Holy tender breasts! My body is spending some time in adjustment mode with the influx of this cream. After a quick chat with my Functional Medicine Doctor, he said to back off to half a pump of this cream and work up to a full one.

Supplements Compliant During the Elimination Phase of AIP:

Both of these have been part of my regimen for quite a while and completely love them!

This took quite a bit of vulnerability to share, given how cruel the internet can be. Thank you in advance for your understanding and for keeping comments respectful. ♥
