Skin takes a beating all Winter but with Summer fast approaching, you might be thinking it’s time to shed the fur, scales and over all dry feel! This recipe is one I’ve used for years because of how simple yet effective it is. It has just two main ingredients with endless add-in options. If you don’t have any of the add-ins, that’s fine! Just use the two base ones.

Base Ingredients:

  1. Coconut Oil
  2. Organic Sugar


That’s it – easy, right? 😉

I prefer using organic sugar because the granules are much bigger and creates better exfoliation. Any brand of coconut oil will do but I bought cheap with the Kroger kind for this recipe. The good organic coconut oil gets saved for cooking! 😉

My batches are pretty basic since I just add a couple drops of lavender essential oil for a calming affect. It’s so relaxing to use this right before bed – puts me right out! Plus, then all the coconut oil sinks into my skin all night. Aura Cacia is a perfect go-to oil brand but any will do. If you have a recommendation, leave it in the comments. Knowing what other people use is always interesting!

As the coconut oil cools, it will harden a bit but as soon as you’re in a steamy shower it’ll melt into a skin nourishing scrub again. This recipe is a dryer scrub but if you prefer yours runnier simply add some more coconut oil!

Coconut Oil Sugar Scrub

Course Skincare
Total Time 5 minutes


  • 1/3 C. Sugar, organic
  • 1 Tbsp. Coconut Oil

Optional Add-ins

  • 3+ Drops Essential Oil
  • 1+ Pinch Dried Lavender Buds
  • 3+ Drops Vitamin E Oil
  • 3+ Drops Jojoba Oil


  1. Place the sugar in a small mixing bowl.

  2. In a seperate bowl, melt the coconut oil.

  3. Add the melted (but not hot!) coconut oil to the bowl of sugar.

  4. Add in any desired optional ingredients.

  5. Stir everything together.

Recipe Notes

Make sure the coconut oil isn't so hot that it melts the sugar. This makes two small batches but can be used all at once, if needed. Store in air tight container and use within two weeks.

Now all that’s left to do is rub the Coconut Oil Sugar Scrub vigorously over your skin during your next shower. You’ll notice while toweling off how soft your skin will feel.. especially if you’ve shaved right before using! For best results, use once or twice a week starting now through Summer for an all over healthy, hydrated look. 😀
